Sometimes you get caught in a situation where you have two options for handling a problem, either with a negative or with a positive attitude.
Sometimes you must fight fire with fire but going the negative way doesn’t require a lot of thinking or staying self-composed and this will never benefit you in any way.
On the other hand, going the positive route will test your patience, you would have to stay humble and try to find a solution benefiting both parties. And that takes a lot of effort and self-discipline to master.
Let me illustrate what I’m saying and help you by taking a better decision by starting with this example.
THE CAFE SHOP
Imagine yourself going to your normal morning coffee shop and ordering you’re usual. But this time you are being served by a new trainee, and it’s taking a bit longer than usual, now a small line is building up, you;
POSITIVE ATTITUDE:
You notice that you’re running late, but you remember at one point that you were a trainee too. At that instant you have two options, you either leave or stay.
You decide to stay, but only to notice that your drink is ready, the trainee apologizes for the wait, you smile back, making them feel good, and that you understand.
NEGATIVE ATTITUDE:
You notice that you’re running late, you start getting impatient. You look around to if see anybody agreed with you for this long wait, as you sigh. Look at your watch. Bust another sigh. You start to ask yourself how long it is going to take for a simple coffee.
The trainee turns around and apologizes for the wait, but that not good enough for you because, at this point, you feel like talking to the manager.
Now you have two options, you either stay or you leave. You decide to stay to argue some more with the trainee only to storm out.
Then I’ll see it all on YouTube under the title “Impatient client gone wild” because somebody films you.
Notice how the negative story is longer than the positive one. I wasn’t trying to butter it up, but having a positive attitude, there nothing much to say.
But on the other hand, the negative one was:
- Impatient
- Stressed because of time
- Breathing heavily (Sigh)
- Complaining
- Got mad
Finally to walk out empty-handed. Having worked in a management position for a long time, I have seen this a million time before, I always wonder why? Why get all worked up like that for something small like a coffee, but at the same time people get worked up for pretty much anything.
That’s no way to live, and you should be more humble. Nobody wants to be around negative people, and that only attracts negative karma.
5 TYPICAL MISCONCEPTION ABOUT POSITIVITY
- IT’S A YOGA AND MEDITATION THING
- IT’S A WEAKNESS
- IT’S COMES WITH MONEY
- POSITIVE THINKING DOESN’T SOLVE PROBLEMS
- IT’S AN EFFORT AND A WASTE OF TIME
1– Of course, you can do yoga or meditate to bring yourself to a Zen state of mind. But this is not the only way to find positivity. It can be reached by reading a good book, helping someone in need and so on.
2– Sometimes doing the right thing can pass as a weakness, like not engaging in an argument or walking away from a fight. That’s the hardest thing to do, but the important part is having your head in the right place. I say, PICK your fights and don’t restrain yourself from doing the right thing.
3– I see people in my surroundings, with & without money being happy. People with the least of it is where I get most of my laughs and good times. But again it all depends on their state of mind.
4– I never saw someone being angry to solve any problem. A lot can be solved by being calm. You can be firm too without being unpleasant.
5– It’s difficult to stay positive when you have one of those days when everything is going wrong. If you want to master yourself and overcome your weakness, you need to put in the effort. And by any means not waste time!
THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING
THE BOXER
A boxer trains for months to fight for mire minutes. The only thing going through his head is winning. He doesn’t give up when he’s tired or complains about it. He’s got a clear goal in his mind. And the power of the mind can overcome pain, fatigue, and fear.
Set yourself a goal in mind and stick with it. When hard times comes your way, think about the result, picture it and even pretend that you have it already. That should give you the extra push you need to stay positive and the attitude that goes with it.
Your brain behaves like a muscle, so whatever you train yourself to do, it’ll excel on it. So if you have bad habits, you’re going have to replace them with good ones.
And those new improvements will show when you speak, in your body language, your humour, and your daily activities. Leaving no place for the negative attitude to manifest.
10 STEPS ON TRAINING YOURSELF TO BE A BETTER POSITIVE THINKER
- TRY TO FIND THE GOOD IN PEOPLE, EVEN IF YOU CAN’T.
- REMEMBER THE WORLD IS NOT OUT TO GET YOU, SO DON’T VIEW THE WORLD AS YOUR ENEMY.
- IT’S OK TO DO THE RIGHT THING, SO DON’T BE HARD ON YOURSELF.
- SMILE MORE OFTEN, AND YOU MAY ATTRACT A SMILE BACK.
- LISTEN TO MUSIC THAT MAKES YOU WANT TO DANCE, GET YOUR MIND EXCITED FOR A WHILE.
- BE GRATEFUL ON WHAT YOU HAVE AND IMAGINE IF YOU DIDN’T HAVE THEM.
- TAKE PROBLEM AS A CHALLENGE, KEEP YOUR MIND ON ONE THING AT A TIME.
- HELP OR LISTEN TO SOMEBODY IN NEED.
- TAKING YOURSELF TOO SERIOUSLY? LAUGH IT OFF A LITTLE BIT.
- TAKE 10 MINS FOR YOURSELF, TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND THINK OF SOMEPLACE WHERE YOU ARE COMPLETELY IN HARMONY.
IN CONCLUSION
An athlete never thinks of losing; they train to win! They believe in staying positive and you should too. Having a negative attitude won’t bring you any respect or good karma.
Having a pleasing personality with the right mindset goes a long way. That’s why it’s important putting this into practice. Maybe you’ll discover a different world that you never noticed before. Sure enough, you’ll be on your way to being fearless.
The right state of mind = Positive Attitude
The wrong state of mind = Negative Attitude
HAVE POSITIVE ATTITUDE
